Jesus was called a Nazarene because He grew up in the town of Nazareth. The followers of Jesus were also called the Nazarenes. Incidentally, the great Apostle Paul, while on trial for his life, was accused of being the ringleader of the sect of the Nazarene. Of course, Jesus did not uphold any denomination, but because of the fact that we bear His name, it is held in honour all constituent members of the Church of the Nazarene. The supreme passion of all Christians is to be like Jesus and follow His teachings which form the basis of our doctrine, and His life, our salient example.
“Our task is to make known to all people the transforming grace of God through the forgiveness of sins and heart cleansing in Jesus Christ, thus building Christian Holiness and Mission Churches, and making Christ like disciples.”
We believe that every person that is a Christian is UNIQUELY DESIGNED for service to Christ through their church and in the world we serve. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service.
The Calvary Church of the Nazarene was planted consequent to a God given vision and divine plan which dawned in the mind of Pastor C. S. Dhas while pasturing a home mission Church in Jawahar Nagar, Chennai in South India.
At my lowest point when I was alone and afraid, God drew me to Himself. From growing up in a Christian home, I knew what to do. I knew that He could save me if I just let Him. I confessed that I am a sinner and that I was trying to find life in other people and myself. I acknowledged that He sent Jesus to die on the cross so that I can be saved from my sin and have eternal life. I committed to living for God instead of others.
John
Since knowing Him, God showed me that being a “Christian” isn’t about just doing good works. He made it clear that I do not have to earn my salvation or His love (Eph. 2:8-9). He has given me fulfillment and purpose and joy. I am not perfect and I still mess up, but God loves me despite my flaws and imperfections. And when the things I was pursuing before continually let me down, God has never once left me.
